Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its AMG-tuned offerings beyond its already burgeoning stable of 6.2 and 5.5 litre V8 models, adding models even smaller than the C-Class to its line-up.

AMG is Mercedes-Benz' high-performance arm, its models numbering among the most powerful - and most expensive - cars available in the carmaker's range.

Speaking with US publication Inside Line this week, AMG boss Ola Kallenius confirmed that while the current A- and B-Class models will not be elevated to AMG status, Mercedes' next generation of small cars - arriving "in the next three to four years" - will get high-performance models.

The news follows reports earlier this year that the replacement for the now 13 year-old A-Class will feature an AMG-powered flagship aimed at the likes of the Golf R and the Audi S3.

Kallenius also confirmed that a pair of new Black Series models will arrive in the near future, all-but-ensuring that the enhanced C 63 AMG recently spied will be among the new models to get the ultra-exclusive modifications.

Power for the C 63 AMG Black Series will reportedly come from AMG's new 5.5 litre V8, producing 400kW and 800Nm of torque - well beyond the 336kW and 600Nm of the 6.2 litre V8-powered C 63 AMG.
