Every real car enthusiast knows how difficult it can be to find that 'one' car park. The 'one' that will be safe for them to leave their pride and joy, without stressing and fretting every second they're away from the car.
But now, for Melbourne drivers, just like safety ratings for the car, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and Victoria Police CBD Superintendent Stephen Leane have announced a system of rating the safety and security of Melbourne car parks. All in an effort to curb thieves and increase safety in the city.
The new rating system will be based on the quality of the safety systems in place at each car park. The high ratings will be for those car parks in the CBD that are well-lit, regularly staffed and have CCTV. Lower security car parks, those without such services, will receive lower ratings.
Victoria Police report around 3000 car break-ins per year in Melbourne. Although figures from the past nine months have shown a downturn in break-ins, the car park safety rating is hoped to reduce the statistics even more.
