MCLAREN AUTOMOTIVE has confirmed it will open 35 dealerships worldwide in the lead-up to the launch of its new supercar, the 2011 McLaren MP4-12C.

Spanning 19 countries, including nine locations in the US, the new McLaren retail arm will include an Australian presence with the opening next year of a dealership in Sydney.

A specific location has yet to be revealed, but with Ferrari and Maserati setting up shop in Waterloo earlier this year, it remains to be seen if McLaren will look to be a visible alternative in the same precinct, or if it will look to steer clear of the Italian duo's influence on buyers.

McLaren said it expects its US, UK and German dealers to generate the most sales for the British supercar brand, with around 300-400 cars expected to sell in the US each year and 400-500 in Europe.

The Asia-Pacific, Middle East and South Africa regions are expected to account for around 100-200 sales in total.

With an eventual aim of around 4000 sales per year, McLaren aims to expand its product range and dealer numbers over the coming years.
