This time a year ago at the Geneva Motor Show we saw the Mazda2 officially for the first time in five-door form. Since then it has gone on to win a number of awards and sell up a storm throughout Europe, Asia and Australia.
This year it is the sporty Mazda2 three-door hatch back that Mazda have revealed in Geneva and much like the five-door, it is a particularly handsome small car, with a more sporty flavour.
The new Mazda2 three-door hatchback builds on the five-door hatchback's exterior design - that evokes movement and athleticism, its rear side window has a unique shape that combines well with Mazda2's rising belt line and wedge shape.
There is a sports appearance package available that includes a special front bumper design and side sills that visually lower the car's centre of gravity, along with a rear roof mounted spoiler.
On the inside, a dark keynote colour contrasts nicely with white instruments, silver accents, and a three-spoke steering wheel similar to the Mazda MX-5 roadster.
The Mazda2 three-door hatch that has been unveiled in Geneva is a little trickier than the run-of-the-mill Mazda2 three-door. Its exterior features an eye-catching special red mica colour and showcases the line-up's exterior Sports Appearance Package that is further enhanced by lowered suspension, wider tyres, projector-type headlamps and special 16-inch wheels (no picture of the exterior yet...)
On the inside, the sporty theme continues with Recaro?? seats in two-tone red and black along with matching red stitching on the leather steering wheel. The driver cluster has meter rings and the door trim has leather inserts and specially painted panels.
Mechanically, the Mazda2 three-door hatch is available with the same drivetrain options as the five-door hatch. Full specifications are available by clicking the following link.
