The new Mazda2 is proving to be a sales success for Mazda and why wouldn’t it. Sporting attractive and distinctive styling, a five-star Euro-NCAP safety rating and a plethora of Car of the Year awards across the globe it would be hard to go past if you were in the market for this type of vehicle.

In a first for the Mazda2 range, Mazda will be unveiling a three-door hatchback version at the 78th annual Geneva International Motor Show. Mazda say the new three-door will be a sportier and more affordable addition to the range.

The new Mazda2 three-door hatchback is aimed at the European market and is designed to attract new customers to further Mazda's continued growth in that region. It will feature the same MZR 1.3-liter and 1.5- liter petrol engines, and the same MZ-CD 1.4-liter common-rail turbo diesel, as the five-door hatchback. These engines achieve high fuel efficiency along with particularly low CO2 emissions.

Also at Geneva this year Mazda will be presenting three European debuts: the Mazda Taiki concept car, equipped with Mazda's next-generation rotary engine, the Mazda5 Hydrogen RE Hybrid and the facelift version of Mazda's unique rotary engine sports car, the RX-8.

The Geneva International Motor Show gets underway for the public on March 6 and runs through to the 16th.
