Mazda2 Maxx And Genki Achieve ANCAP 5-Star Rating

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has announced a new 5-Star crash safety rating for the top two variants in the three-model Mazda2 and line-up.
Based on tests undertaken by ANCAP's sister organisation Euro NCAP, the top rating applies to all Mazda2 Hatch and Sedan variants fitted with six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
In the case of the Hatch, the 5-Star rating is carried by the Mazda2 Maxx and Genki variants - the only hatch variants fitted with six airbags as standard. The Neo, although fitted with ESC as standard, is equipped only with front passenger and driver airbags.
In its standard form, the Neo continues to carry the Mazda2's earlier 4-Star ANCAP rating. The Neo's airbag complement can be increased to six however with the addition of the $400 Safety Pack option.
With the 2011 update now on sale, the Mazda2 retains its 76kW 1.5 litre petrol engine, with fuel consumption listed at 6.4 l/100km.
Production of the Mazda2 has returned to the company's Hiroshima plant in Japan, bringing an end to the Thailand-built model for the Australian market. The Sedan variant will also be discontinued here once current stocks are exhausted.
