Mazda has added some extra goodness to its already impressive Mazda6 range for the 2009 model year. Additional equipment including Bi-Xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, auto headlights and wipers and an auto-dimming rear view mirror will become standard equipment on some models in the Mazda6 range.

As an added incentive to buyers, Mazda has re-engineered the MZR 2.5 litre engine to run on 91 RON fuel without altering power or torque figures. This equates to a 10 percent saving in running costs according to Mazda.

The new equipment represents up to $3,500 worth of enhancements on some models. Prices will rise between $500 - $1500 depending on the model grade, as result of fluctuating exchange rates.

The inclusion of Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) on Luxury, Luxury Sport and Diesel Sport makes the Mazda6 the first car in the medium segment below $60,000 to include this technology as standard. The system turns the headlights with the steering to improve night time vision while cornering.

All Mazda6 models come with air-conditioning, remote central locking, 6-disc MP3 compatible CD-stereo with aux-in jack, and electric windows and mirrors.

Mazda6's safety features include six occupant airbags, active head restraints and DSC stability across the range.

Doug Dickson, Managing Director of Mazda Australia had this to say about the MY2009 Mazda6, "The arrival of first-in-class technology like AFS, and an even longer equipment list, makes the stylish new Mazda6 even more attractive to Australians."

Mazda’s engineers have also gone to work on the MZR 2.5 litre petrol engine allowing it to run on 91 RON unleaded. The four-cylinder engine still produces 125kW of power at 6,000rpm and 226Nm of torque at 4,000rpm and can sprint to 100Km/h in 8.0 seconds for the six speed manual. Fuel consumption remains unchanged  at between 8.4 and 8.9L/100km depending body style and transmission.

Dickson also said, "We firmly believe the new Mazda6 continues to offer class-leading value, the transition to 91 RON petrol alone spells significant savings for owners… Depending on how far you drive each year, that can add up to hundreds of dollars. “

Other added features include rain-sensing wipers and auto on/off headlamps for the petrol Classic, Luxury and Luxury Sport, and all diesel models. Bi-Xenon headlights with AFS, electrochromatic rearview mirror and front and rear parking sensors, come standard on Luxury, Luxury Sport and Diesel Sport models. Metallic paint is also available across the range for no additional cost.

The  MY2009 Mazda6 Range is available in sedan, hatch and wagon bodystyles priced from $28,490 for the Limited sedan up to $43,890 for the Diesel Sports hatch.
