More and more manufacturers are turning to fuel saving stop-start technology, even the Kia Cee'd has it. Mazda has announced it will join the contest with the UK version of its popular Mazda3.

Mazda is giving itself a bit of time though, announcing that it plans to have stop-start technology installed on its 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre petrol engines before year's end. The diesel will miss out for now.

Given our local Mazda3 variants share some of the same engines seen abroad, there's every chance we could also see the stop-start technology on later versions sold here.
