Borrowing a few styling cues from its Shinari four-door coupe concept, Mazda has released a trio of images that previews its upcoming Minagi Concept.

Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the Minagi offers a glimpse at the styling of Mazda's future SUV line-up.

While the concept is rumoured to form the basis for a brand-new compact SUV dubbed the CX-5, it is likely that its 'soul of motion' Kodo design language will influence the next-generation CX-7 and CX-9 models.

The upcoming Range Rover Evoque has also reportedly moved minds at Mazda to consider three- and five-door versions of the CX-5. With Mazda looking to become the "Japanese Alfa Romeo," there may be some merit to this approach.

Mazda will also use the Minagi Concept to further showcase its new SkyActiv technology, including the SkyActiv-G direct-injected petrol engine, the SkyActiv-D diesel engine, and its SkyActiv-Drive automatic and SkyActiv-MT manual transmissions.

The Geneva show will mark the Minagi's world unveiling. Mazda's Shinari concept - the first of its concepts to wear the company's new Kodo styling language - will also make its European debut at the event.
