Mazda has announced this week that it will be extending the US-market warranty on the Renesis rotary engine—currently found in the RX-8—to eight years/100,000miles (whichever comes first, as usual).  Is this a symbol of Mazda's faith in the engine, or are they loading up on good karma?  With the perception that rotary engines simply don't last as long as a regular piston engine, perhaps this is an acknowledgment that Mazda has a higher duty of care to their buyers than other manufacturers.

Whatever the case may be, it's certainly not going to be unwelcome to RX-8 owners!  This arrangement is special in that it's also been applied to the cars of existing owners as well as to brand new ones.  Not a bad gift, eh?

The warranty on the rest of the driving bits stays at the existing 5 year/60,000 mile deal, and the regular warranty at 3 years/36.000 miles.

Will this generous extension make its way to Mazda Australia?  Stay tuned to TMR, RX-8 owners!  As soon as we know, you'll know.
