In these times of global warming doom and gloom Green has certainly become the ?it? word in the auto industry. Mazda are taking it to a new extreme by developing a bioplastic that is made from plants.

The new plastic uses the sugars and starches found in plant matter and as a result the new ?green? plastic is carbon-neutral. Manufacture of the new plastic uses 30 percent less energy than is used in the manufacture of normal oil-based plastics and the end result is apparently biodegradable as well.

Mazda believe that their new ?plant plastic? is good enough to use for some interior plastics and intends to make use of the new plastic for some sections of their cars dashboards and gloveboxes.

Best not to leave your 2008 Mazda MX5?s hood down in wet weather in case your dashboard biodegrades or sprouts shoots?
