Maserati will use the North American International Motor Show at Detroit, which coincidentally falls on the 70th anniversary of Maserati's first Indianapolis 500 win, to release a new Quattroporte variant dubbed the Sport GT S. This comes as good news for the wounded Detroit Show as more and more manufacturers have pulled out as the event draws closer.

The new Quattroporte will be a worthy attendee with more power, better handling, a plusher interior and revised visuals rounding out the package.

The 4.7 litre V8 pulsing beneath that sinister snout is now good for 323kWs thanks to revised engine management and a new exhaust, which also features a pneumatic valve for sound control - read 'more noise on demand'. Shift times have been reduced thanks to revisions to the transmission management software while handling has been improved with single-rate shocks, stiffer springs and a lower ride height.

New M-design seats trimmed in perforated Alacantra and leather now appear in the cabin while Maserati's "Titanex" (titanium coloured) composite material now adorns various parts of the interior. Outside, a new black grill, titanium finished headlights, black finishing around the doors, black exhaust tips and body-coloured door handles differentiate the GT S from its lesser brethren.

OK, so that's more power, better handling, improved interior, and tasteful exterior revisions. Looks like Maserati has got all bases covered (and that's what we like to see). We'll bring you more info on the Quattroporte Sport GT S closer to Detroit, but for now feast your eyes on the hi-res images in the gallery - delicious.
