Eric Bana has announced that he's working on a documentary-style feature film that explores people's passions for their hobbies and interests. Love the Beast will not be exclusively car-oriented, but will focus heavily on passions of the automotive kind. Given Bana's 25-year love affair with his own Ford XB GT Coupe, the Targa contestant will feature prominently in the film.
Making his directorial debut, Bana has used his celebrity status to rope in the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and Jay Leno, both passionate car enthusiasts, to ensure that there's adequate entertainment value beyond the automotive eye-candy.
When questioned about his reasons for making the feature, Bana explained:
"My hobby happens to be racing and restoring old cars and loving them, and it occurred to me that it's a very common thing in the world, people that have passions and hobbies, and I wanted to make a film about how important they are in our lives."
There's no release date confirmed at this stage, but for now we can bring you the official trailer so you can get a feel for what's on offer. Featuring Bana's exploits at last year's Targa Tasmania (in which he crashed out), the trailer also showcases the A-list celebs that make an appearance in the film.
While the trailer is short, it's appetising enough to ensure that we'll be catching the full-length feature when Bana releases the documentary to the masses. 'Poida' would be pleased.
