If you thought the unveiling of Lotus' next-generation line-up meant you'd seen the last of the seemingly endless updates to the Exige, you might have another think coming.

With the British sports car brand's new range not expected to begin hitting showrooms until 2013, its current models will need to keep kicking for at least another two years.

For the Evora, launched only two years ago, it will be business as usual - and in fact, an update to Lotus' current range-topper is already scheduled to arrive in 2012.

The Exige and Elise, on the other hand, are now rapidly ageing models that, combined, saw less than 15 sold in Australia in 2010.

The Elise however had the benefit of a late-cycle update last year; the Exige will reportedly receive a similar update sometime this year - likely ahead of March's Geneva Auto Show.

The updates are expected to keep the brand moving towards its promised overhaul, starting in 2013 with the launch of the brand-new and high-powered Esprit supercar. With a supercharged 462kW version of the Lexus IS F's V8 engine, the Esprit is sure to pack a punch.
