IF THERE WERE any doubts as to Lexus' ability to shift all 500 of its $450,000 LFA supercars, news from Japan today is sure to quiet the naysayers.

With fully 165 examples of Lexus' first supercar made available to the brand's homeland, rapid sales have seen order books closed two months ahead of schedule this week.

Opened on October 21 last year, applications for the LFA were scheduled to be taken until March 21 this year.

Unveiled at last year's Tokyo Motor Show, the LFA is powered by a 4.8 litre naturally-aspirated V10 developing 412kW at 8700rpm and 480Nm at 6800rpm.

Top speed is a heady 325km/h and the 0-100km/h sprint is wrapped up in just 3.7 seconds.

While the supercar's home market will get 165 units, Lexus Australia confirmed in December that just five will make it to our shores. While CEO John Roca did not say, it is likely that all five will find themselves in the driveways of Lexus dealer principals.

"LFA is as much an engineering exercise as it is a clear demonstration of the passion that lies within Lexus. It will become the template from which future Lexus vehicles will be developed and measured," Mr Roca said.

"Our next challenge is managing the allocation process - we are already certain that we will not have enough LFAs to fulfil demand."

Production of the LFA begins this year, with the first of Australia’s five expected to arrive in early 2012. Some 20 LFAs will be built each month until the limited run of 500 cars is completed.
