With the official images now in our grasp, it appears that the rendered images of the Lexus HS250h we bought you in November were rather close to the mark.

The official unveiling of the HS250h marks two firsts for Lexus, it's the marques first dedicated hybrid and the first Lexus to use a four-cylinder LPG engine.

Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system appears beneath the sheet metal and is mated to a 2.4-litre four-cylinder LPG engine. Combined power comes in at a respectable 139kWs with the front wheels driven via an electronically controlled constantly variable transmission.

The HS250h is designed to fit in between the IS sport sedan and larger ES luxury sedan range, with comfortable seating for four adults, and five at a stretch. With fuel efficiency expected to be some 30 percent better than the most fuel-efficient model in the Lexus lineup, the HS250h should win favour with the carbon conscious.

The 2010 HS 250h will be on sale in the U.S. by late winter with an as yet unknown price tag.
