After nearly ten years on the job, Lexus has confirmed the end of production for the SC 430, the second-generation model in the SC line.

Standing as Lexus' first two-door hard-top 'coupe convertible', the styling of SC 430 polarised opinions, particularly among fans of the first-generation Toyota Soarer-based Lexus SC.

To its credit, the design SC 430 paved the way for Lexus' L-finesse styling language that has dictated styling of the Japanese luxury carmaker's current line-up. It was also powered by Toyota's venerable 4.3 litre V8, which drove the LS 430 and a number of overseas Lexus models.

Significantly, the 4.3-litre V8 also paved the way for the IS F performance sedan, with the first hand-built IS F prototypes featuring the engine.

Lexus Australia Chief Executive Tony Cramb said the end of production for the SC 430 marks a transition point for Lexus.

"SC 430 has played a significant role in Lexus' history, paving the way for models such as IS 250C and IS F," he said.

"The end of production of SC 430 signals the start of a new era for Lexus - one defined by L-finesse design and innovation."

The next 12 months will see Lexus Australia launch the 3.5 litre V6-powered IS 350, scheduled for a late 2010 launch, along with the 2011 Lexus CT 200h hybrid hatch, confirmed for a first-quarter launch next year.

Lexus Australia also confirmed recently that it will bring eight of the company's LFA supercars into Australia - up from its original allotment of five.
