Last Murcielago to be lightweight and RWD

In the spirit of Porsche’s GT2, Lamborghini have plans to send the current model Murcielago out in style with an ultra-lightweight rear-wheel-drive version to be called the Murcielago SV. Weight saving will be at the top of Lamborghini’s priorities and the plan is to strip up to 136 kilograms from the weight of the current model. To achieve this, the AWD system will be ditched in favour of a rear-wheel-drive only set-up making this a Lambo for the enthusiast with driving talent rather than just a fat wallet.

In the further interests of weight saving, carbon-fibre will be in abundance. The interior will feature carbon-fibre seat shells, door-skins/covers and transmission tunnel cover. Door handles will revert to simple and light weight pull straps and there will be no tunes – with the audio system losing out in the need for speed.

New light-weight forged alloy wheels will feature, while the electrically operated rear spoiler will be dropped in favour of a lighter twin carbon-fibre set-up. The electronic traction control will be remapped in an attempt to tame the rear wheels as best as possible.

Lighter weight is only part of the equation with the SV expected to feature an uprated version of the current cars 6.5-litre V12 sporting an estimated 507kW/680hp running through Lamborghini’s e-gear transmission, that is whispered to have had its shift time halved from 0.4 to 0.2 seconds.

The Murcielago is expected to be replaced in around three years and the SV is likely to be the last version of the current platform. A nice way to say goodbye, lets just hope the price includes some advanced driver training sessions…
