THE LAMBORGHINI REVENTON just got a little less unique, with the revelation this morning - via these leaked images - that a convertible version is on the way.

Rumours of a Reventon Roadster have been circulating for some time. But, without credible sources and with no spy images surfacing, the soft-top's existence was never a certainty. Until now.

Just days after these images first surfaced online, Lamborghini has revealed official details of its latest ultra-rare creation.

With the extremely limited run of just 20 cars, the original Reventon sold for one million euros each, or about $1.6 million Australian dollars. By comparison, the Lamborghini Murcielago, upon which the Reventon is based, runs for around AU$750,000.

Lamborghini has revealed that the Reventon Roadster will sell for for 1.1 million euros ($1.8b), and will be limited to "less than 20" cars.

Power comes from the same 6.5 litre V12 as its hardtop forebear, developing 493kW and 660Nm of torque and thrusting the F22 Raptor fighter-jet-inspired Roadster to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds.

Top speed, Lamborghini claims, is 330km/h.

"The Reventón is the most extreme car in the history of the brand," Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini said.

"The new Roadster adds an extra emotional component to our combined technological expertise – it unites superior performance with the sensual fascination of open-top driving."

According to Lamborghini, the bodyshell of the Reventon is already so stiff, that converting it into Roadster form required only minimal reinforcement, keeping weight to a relatively modest 1690kg. The hardtop weighs in at 1665kg.

None of this will come cheaply, with the asking price believed to be in the vicinity of €1,200,000 (AUD $2,300,000) - around €200,000 (AUD $384,000) more than the Reventon itself.

Speculation and educated guesses aside, more details should be revealed at Frankfurt next week where the Reventon Roadster is expected to make its world debut.
