FRESH IMAGES of an unidentified Lamborghini Gallardo variant have been circulating the web, prompting many to speculate that they may be the first shots of the rumoured rear-wheel-drive Gallardo LP550-2.
In Lamborghini parlance, the "-2" suffix denotes just two driven wheels - a number of significance considering all of the supercar maker's recent road cars have been four-wheel drive.
The Diablo was the last model to be motivated by the rear wheels alone, and a new RWD variant of the Gallardo would certainly add some spice to Lamborghini's lineup. But do these pictures show such a car?
Given the stripe package and contrasty black-on-white interior, it's clearly some kind of upcoming special edition; but determining its drivetrain layout from these images alone is near on impossible. There aren't any noticable differences in bodywork between this and the current LP560-4, but the 19-inch wheels are reminiscent of the old Superleggera.
So, while internet scuttlebutt says this might just be the first RWD Lambo in nearly a decade, it's simply too early to tell. Let's see what Lamborghini have to say about this one first, eh?
