The falling demand for vehicles worldwide has claimed another scalp, with Lamborghini announcing a temporary shut down. Production will come to halt for two weeks between February and March, with 300 of the companies 1000 workers affected.

In an attempt to keep workers employed, Lamborghini has introduced working-time reductions to allow a more flexible approach to changing market conditions. The move has been welcomed by unions.

“We have established a decade of sales and profit increases, including another record year for deliveries in 2008, but we cannot maintain the previous levels of production during the downturn,” said Lamborghini’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann.

The company maintains that its long-term plans remain intact and that plans to bring a new model to market each year will continue. Despite the current economic conditions Lamborghini's future growth predictions have not been altered.
