While KERS may not have had a trouble free run during testing and development, it's almost certain we'll see the system utilised in '09's Grand Prix series.
With safety concerns and costs high on the agenda, F1 teams have met twice in the last 7 days to discuss the possibility of delaying introduction until 2010, lead by Renault boss Flavio Briatore.
BMW Sauber, Honda Racing and Williams have all chosen to continue with the planned '09 starting date, despite BMW themselves having experienced issues with the system during testing. With F1 rules stating that all teams must reach an agreement for any change to be made, it's highly unlikely KERS will not go ahead as scheduled.
BMW team boss Mario Theissen had a very logical take on the issue;
"Our point of view is that it is good, not just for BMW but for the sport. And if it is good we should have it as soon as possible. No technical project has become cheaper by delaying its introduction. So if we delayed it by another year we would spend the same money without putting it on stage, and there is no sense at all."
Safety is always of the utmost importance, but with Honda having just successfully completed testing at Silverstone without incident, it's only a matter of time before the rest of the paddock gets their own set-ups sorted (I for one can't wait to see it in action).
