In the lead-up to the Geneva Motor Show, BMW have taken the wraps off their new John Cooper Works warmed over editions of the MINI Cooper S and MINI Clubman. Each variant features performance upgrades and a bunch of additional interior appointments.

The new JCW MINI Cooper S is the basis for the 2008 MINI CHALLENGE cars.

Both new JCW steeds feature a 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine that delivers 155kW and 260Nm, enough to see the Cooper S manage the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.5 seconds. The weightier Clubman version is a further 0.2 seconds off the pace. For those in a real hurry there is also an ‘overboost’ function that results in a momentary 20Nm boost of torque.

Despite the 1.6-litre having a fairly hefty output, the JCW Cooper S sips fuel at the rate of only 6.9L/100km with the Clubman managing 7.0L/100km while CO2 emissions are 167g/km and 165g/km respectively.

Upgrades include unique alloy wheels, upgraded suspension, a new performance orientated exhaust and a six-speed manual that has been upgraded to deal with the added power.

On the outside, both JCW cars feature distinctive body kits to separate them from their lesser MINI brethren.
