Ford has recalled its Mustang pony car in Australia due to a potential problem with the battery cable wiring loom.

The carmaker said the loom may be too close to the exhaust manifold.

Should the loom contact the manifold while the engine is hot, the insulation may melt and create a short circuit. This could affect the operation of the vehicle, or create a fire hazard.

Ford says no such incidents have been reported in Australia to date.

Affected models were built between May 2015 and March of last year, and all are fitted with the 5.0 litre V8 petrol engine. In total, 1391 are on the recall list for Australia.

Ford will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or phone Ford Australia on 1800 503 672.
