Jaguar F-Type production hinted at by Tata boss

Are you concerned about an Indian company owning the keys to Jaguar’s front door? Maybe you think they won’t have the vision to see beyond the cheap and cheerful, or that Jaguar will be lost in the new custodians readily admitted obsession with Land Rover?

Well, news just out suggests that fears such as these may be unfounded. With India’s Tata Group due to take-over Jaguar any day now, Tata Group Chairman, Ratan Tata has been talking in a fashion that will have Jaguar aficionados smiling for quite some time.

Ford recently met with Tata to discuss future models for both Land Rover and Jaguar and Ratan Tata confirmed that he would see all of the future model programs through to completion.

“What we see, we like and the technologies are very impressive,” said Ratan Tata

Further to this positive news Ratan Tata stated in Geneva this week that he would be more than happy to have the F-Type Jaguar take its place in the future Jaguar model line-up. In fact, he confirmed that he holds a “very strong view” about the F-Type. The Jaguar F-Type will be a smaller, light-weight sportscar that would be a direct competitor to Porsches 911 and likely based upon the E-Type inspired F-Type concept pictured.

Now words are just words and we all know that a business man of Tata’s ilk won’t generally back a new model unless he sees a good business case in it, but at least he is starting out with the right attitude.

Apparently, the funding for the new models (F-Type included) and planned model facelifts has been allowed for, so there should not be any financial impediment to eventual F-Type production.
