Following the debut earlier this year (last month in Australia) of the Jaguar XKR Special Edition, new reports out of the UK suggest Jaguar is working on an even hotter version of the high-performance XKR coupe.

According to Britain's Autocar magazine, the super XKR will be based on the Goodwood Special version that debuted last year. The report adds that the production version of the special Jag has already registered a 7min 58sec lap of the Nurburgring, bettering Sport Auto magazine's 8:25 run in the XKR.

Little else is known about the extra-hot XKR, but reports claim it will feature a more highly-tuned version of the existing 5.0 litre V8, similar to the 390kW/700Nm version powering the Goodwood special.

Speaking with British site pistonheads, Jaguar chief Mike O'Driscoll reportedly confirmed a top speed of "at least" 300km/h.

"This is definitely not a level of performance anyone would have associated with the XKR before now," O'Driscoll is quoted as saying.

The Jaguar XKR Special Edition, with only 10 examples available in Australia, features an electronically-limited top speed of 280km/h - up from the usual 250km/h.
