Well known for its design work on a variety of European cars, Turin based Italdesign Guigiaro, has announced it will be unveiling a car of its own creation at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

While its appearance is striking, the real point of interest is that this sports car uses a  hybrid drive train. But not just any old hybrid drive train, this one  is said to be powerful enough to push Italdesign's new creation beyond 300km/h!

If Italdesign is to be believed, then this environmentally friendly road-rocket will dash from 0-100km/h in less than four seconds and will have the handling to match its sporting prowess.

Official details are thin on the ground, with Italdesign due to reveal the technical details in Geneva. We do know however that the petrol engine is a Wankel rotary and that electric motors will be used to power each axle, resulting in a permanent all-wheel drive arrangement.

The petrol-electric hybrid combination is said to result in a  fuel efficiency figure of around 2.5 l/100kms...

Lightweight construction has played a role in the impressive numbers, with Italdesign using a cocktail of exotic (and expensive) materials to keep weight to a minimum. The body is made entirely of aluminium and carbon and sits atop a carbon-fibre chassis.

Don't let the Munster's hairline put you off,  this is a car to look out for when the Geneva Auto Show kicks off in early March.
