It appears Hyundai isn’t content to rest on its laurels after having its Genesis luxury sedan voted North American Car of the Year. News today is that the Korean giant-killer is working on a small car to rival Toyota’s diminutive iQ car.

Operating under the project name “Green Baby” , the word from an insider at Hyundai’s Europe office is that the petite iQ competitor will be different in that it will be more basic and functional than its Toyota counterpart. “It would be sort of modular and minimalist in a Citroën 2CV kind of way,” he said.

There’s no word on what will power the feather-weight Hyundai, but short of developing a new unit all together, the 48kW four-cylinder found in the already tiny Indian-built i10 would likely be a decent fit.

Don’t expect to see this one in Australia, though.  With neither the i10 nor the i20 making it this far, the odds of the littlest member of the family showing up Downunder are slim to none.
