It's a mark of how far Hyundai has come in the past decade that one of the more hotly anticipated launches scheduled for 2011 is the Korean carmaker's Veloster coupe.

After months of spy photos and tidbits from Hyundai America CEO John Krafcik, the Veloster has this week been confirmed for a Detroit Auto Show unveiling.

Along with the announcement, Hyundai has released a teaser video featuring the coupe silhouetted against a bright background. Importantly, the video also confirms that Hyundai's new sub-Genesis sports car will keep the Veloster concept's name when it launches.

Little else is known at this point, although the video describes a direct-injection engine - a 105kW 1.6 litre engine was earlier confirmed - paired with a new dual-clutch transmission.
