In new crash safety test results announced today, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program has awarded its top 5-Star rating to Hyundai's i45 medium sedan

“The 5-star rating for the Hyundai i45 adds to Hyundai's growing list of 5-star vehicles,” ANCAP Chair Lauchlan McIntosh said.

“It is pleasing to see manufacturers in Australia and around the world acknowledging the importance of safety and factoring that into their production and marketing – this is only good news for new car buyers, their families and all road users.”

Safety for the i45 includes six air-bags - driver, passenger, side and curtain – anti-submarining front seat base, ABS, stability control, traction control, hill-start assist (standard across the range), day/night rear-view mirror, seat-belt warning lights and more.

In testing done by ANCAP's sister organisation Euro NCAP, the diminutive Holden Barina Spark has been awarded a 4-Star rating. Because of their related testing criteria, the Euro NCAP safety rating applies in Australia.

"It is commendable that the Barina Spark includes ESC and six airbags as standard." Mr McIntosh said.

“This result shows that consumers can have safety as a high priority when buying the cheaper, smaller cars on the market.”

Standard safety features for the Barina Spark include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), with anti-lock braking system, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution and traction control.

Occupants are protected by a total of six airbags – dual front, front side impact and full length curtain airbags.
