Images of Hyundai’s upcoming Genesis Coupe have found their way onto the internet over the weekend and for the first time allow us a close-up look at the expected Tiburon replacement. We have previously seen the Genesis Coupe in production trim thanks to some pictures taken during a market research exercise but these latest pitures are for all intents and purposes leaked official images.

Based on the visually stunning Hyundai Concept Genesis Coupe the production version appears to have kept most of the concept cars basic lines, including the unusual kink under the rear window. The front bar has been reworked for the production version and the side rear brake ducts seen on the concept have been dropped.

Based on the Genesis RWD platform the Genesis Coupe promises to be a lot of fun. Not all engine specs are known yet, however a turbocharged 2.0-litre has been confirmed for the entry level model, while a 3.8-litre V6 variant is also considered likely. Speculation also runs to a Tau V8 version that will feature the V8 engine found in the Genesis sedan, although Hyundai have denied this option and remain tight-lipped.

Other special features are rumoured to include Brembo brakes and a limited slip differential. In the US, Hyundai have their sites set on swaying Mustang buyers away from their pony cars and on paper at least, the Genesis Coupe should offer a more up-to-date package than the current Mustang generation.
