HSV W427 tipped to feature in Vauxhall lineup

Autoexpress are reporting that HSV’s W427 will be heading to the UK, where it will become the high-priced headline act alternative to the VXR8. We were lucky enough to see the W427 at its Melbourne Motor Show debut and while first appearances might fool those not in the know, it is under the hood where mild turns to wild for this monster.

Shoehorned into the HSV’s engine bay is a 7.0-litre dry sumped lump of Chevy Corvette Z06 LS7 V8, good for in excess of 370kW of power and 640Nm of torque. HSV have yet to release the official power output…

The W427 is expected to demolish the 0-100km/h sprint in mid 4’s, performance that will put it in the same ballpark as the BMW M5 and Audi RS6. But as we know, performance is only one part of the equation.

Entry to the 7.0-litre Vauxhall club is tipped to cost in the vicinity of £55,000 – not exactly cheap but a little under the pricing of its perceived rivals.

While work continues to ready the production version of HSV’s big hitter, it is expected that most of the goodies that debuted on the W427 showcar will be fitted to the production version. That means, 20 inch alloy wheels, six-piston caliper brakes, a HSV designed induction system, beefed up limited-slip diff and the Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual cog-swapper.

We would expect that Magnetic Ride control (standard on our GTS) would also be fitted to the production W427, at least for Australian delivered cars. It is not known if the ‘trick’ suspension will be a feature on the Vauxhall version.
