Holden Special Vehicles will be bringing a limited number of GM's hotter-than-hot hatch, the Astra VXR Nurburgring Edition, to Australian motorists next week, with just 20 of the track-tuned terrors on offer.
Under the bonnet you'll find the same 177kW turbocharged 2-litre ECOTEC-4 that comes with the regular VXR, along with the same close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, however it's the rest of the package that makes the Nurburgring Edition so special. While they may not be as bling as the VXR's 19-inchers, the Nurburgring Edition's 18-inch rims are lightweight and allow more compliant Dunlop tyres to be fitted. They also widen the track slightly, giving the VXR Nurburgring Edition a more stable footing when attacking winding roads.
The suspension is the same lowered and stiffened spring/strut combo as found in the VXR, as are the brakes, however there are a range of cosmetic improvements to let onlookers know your ride is far from the standard item.
All 20 cars will be sold in the special edition's signature bright white hue and chequered-flag graphic, while the mirrors and B-pillars feature a carbon-look finish. On the inside you'll find Nurburgring-badged sill plates, Recaro bucket seats, and an individually-numbered special edition plaque on the centre console.
While straightline performance is the same as the cooking model VXR (0-100kph in 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 244kph), the Nurburgring Edition is just the thing for those that want a little more exclusivity and a smidgen more performance in their Astra. If you think it's your cup of tea, then grab $44,990 of your hard-earned and head on down to your local HSV dealership to snare yourself one.
