Honda is set to launch a more powerful, sportier Type S version of the diesel-powered Accord Euro at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, in both sedan and wagon form.

Powered by the same 2.2 litre i-DTEC diesel engine as the standard Accord, the Accord Euro Type S receives a revised turbocharger, cylinder head, and larger intercooler to give it 134kW (180hp) @ 4000rpm and 380Nm (280lb-ft) of torque @ 2000rpm – an increase of 22kW (30hp) and 29Nm (22lb-ft) respectively.

"The 180PS diesel model will be a welcome addition to the Accord range, especially for company car drivers that want a high-specification car in an even sportier package," Graham Avent, Manager – Corporate Operations, Honda (UK) said. "This model will undoubtedly appeal to high-performance diesel enthusiasts, looking for that something extra, but we hope it will also create a halo-effect across the diesel Accord range."

In addition to the increased power, the Type S sits on newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, and gains some small aesthetic changes such as clear indicator covers and a Type S badge.  There are also two new paint colours – Premium White Pearl and Basque Red.

The Accord Euro Type S will be available with manual transmission in both the sedan and wagon versions.

Performance, fuel economy, and emissions data are expected to be made available once homologation is completed, with pricing announced not long after.
