The Japanese car maker has revealed local details of the all-new hatch that is due in showrooms in May, confirming it will mirror the existing five-model sedan line-up in terms of price and equipment - with the exception of the sporty RS, which costs $500 more in hatch form.

The Japanese brand has a lot riding on the Civic hatch which it hopes can reclaim some of the nameplate's former glory when the car goes on sale in May.

"Our target is to win the hearts and minds of private buyers with the all-new Honda Civic, and the sedan has certainly done that, achieving well over 20 per cent segment share since launch. So we expect private customers will put the Honda Civic hatch on their shopping list as well, as it's an equally strong offering." said Honda Australia director, Stephen Collins.

A five variant line-up - the same as offered in sedan form – kicks off at $22,390 before on-road costs for the VTi, which places the Civic hatch at a similar entry point to the new Subaru Impreza but slightly more expensive than the popular Toyota Corolla and Mazda3.
