Honda NSX In Development Once Again: Report

Honda's on-again, off-again affair with the next-generation Honda NSX is reportedly on again. Honda CEO Takanobu Ito is reported this week to have confirmed its coming.

Earlier reports claimed the new NSX would be downgraded from supercar to six-cylinder sports car, built on a reversed version of the Accord platform.

But new reports out of Japan suggest that not only is the NSX back in development as a full-blown supercar, but that it will be based on Honda's SuperGT-competing HSV-010GT race car.

If you're confused, you should be: when it was first announced that the NSX spirit would live on in SuperGT track-only form, Honda confirmed the fiery HSV-010GT was actually a racing version of the aborted NSX - which at the time was already in advanced development.

Whether the rumoured new NSX is the chicken or the egg will be irrelevant to eager Honda fans, with Takanobu Ito at least confirming a personal interest in bringing a roadgoing version of the car to market.

"I think Honda should respect the history of the Super GT competition [as a production-based race]," Ito said.

Ito also gave hope to fans that the Type R badge will continue.

"There are two types of sports cars - affordable and high-performance. I hope we will be able to market both," he added.
