The Takata airbag saga shows no signs of slowing, with Honda the latest to expand its existing recalls in Australia.

A total of four recalls have been widened to include new vehicles, with another 25,252 now required to front for attention at a Honda dealer.

Six models - the Accord, Accord Euro, Jazz, City, Legend and Insight - are all from the 2012 model-year, while the seventh is the 2000 year-model Civic.

The recall volumes for Australia are as follows and only specific VINs have been targeted: 592 Civic, 15,535 Jazz, 1426 City, 233 Insight and 36 Legend, while the split for Accord reads 2656 for the Accord and 4804 for the Accord Euro.

As with all Takata airbag recalls to date as part of the world’s largest-ever recall affecting many carmakers, the issue surrounds the airbag’s inflator unit.

The unit is susceptible to moisture absorption over time, rendering it weak in the event that the airbag is required during a collision.
