In the age of the internet you don’t have to endure too many days without word of a good rumour and we have come across a ripper. It’s general knowledge that our home grown performance saloon producers are looking abroad for sales opportunities and HSV are certainly more advanced in this regard than FPV who are set to endure at least another 9 months of agony as they wait for Orion.

HSV have managed to get their Clubsport model into the UK where it wears the Vauxhall VXR8 badge and also have their sites set on the Middle East whose inhabitants are no stranger to a VE Commodore with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

A Clubsport was recently spotted in Detroit Michigan which sparked speculation that it may become the next Pontiac GXP, sitting a rung above Holden’s VE SS-V (in Pontiac G8 GT guise) in the Pontiac line-up.

Now Edmunds are having a punt that the Holden Statesman/Caprice long wheelbase models will become the 2010 Chevrolet Impala. They are even suggesting that HSV’s Grange will be the basis for the Impala SS.

Edmunds are basing this on the fact that HSV’s John Crennan recently told the Australian press of his Middle East export aspirations for the Grange, which they took to mean that a left-hand drive version of the Grange was a done deal. Now, we all know that the Statesman has been designed for markets like the Middle East and is produced in left hand drive so a left hand drive Grange is a given, not a surprise…they are the same car at the end of the day.

However, lets not get in the way of a rumour as fine as this one. It makes sense at the end of the day and was enough to get the guys from Edmunds on a plane to Australia to drive a Grange. One can’t help thinking that the future for HSV, Holden and hopefully Ford when the Orion is released next year is looking a little rosier.
