With the dust still settling on its silver paintwork at the Tokyo Motor Show, the 2008 Nissan GT-R seems to have it all – or does it? A twin-turbo V6, trick AWD suspension and performance times to shame the majority of supercars the GT-R is available in just one model variant...which is a little disappointing really. Call me hard to please if you like but what happened to the rumoured lightweight, boosted Evolution model? Was it just that, a rumour? Thankfully, the folks over at Inside line have confirmed via a Nissan insider that there will be another variant and they are calling it “V-Spec” .

The “insider” reports that it will be a more powerful, lightweight version of the just released GT-R (sounds like that rumoured Evo model...) and it is due to land in North American showrooms in mid-2009. V-Spec variants have previously been available in the R32-34 Skyline GT-R range and featured a lower ride height, a different rear-diff, faster electronic AWD and all-wheel-steer control along with the ability to vary the drive side to side not just front to rear. More power and less weight sounds even better!

It raises one interesting question though. Which variant are Nissan currently using to obtain 7:35 lap times around the Nurburgring and if its not the V-Spec do we have a Porsche 997 GT2 or Pagani Zonda F challenger waiting in the wings...?
