If you were sitting there with a list of pros and cons for which supercar-based super-saloon you should be hauling the kids to school in, you can look a little harder at the Porsche Panamera and cross the GT-R-based Infiniti four-door off your list.

Intended to be an all-wheel-drive flagship for Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti, the unnamed sedan would have been powered by the same twin-turbo V6 slumbering beneath the hood of the all-devouring Nissan GT-R.

The good sorts at Inside Line have chatted with Nissan’s Senior VP of Sales and Marking, Brian Carolin, who confirmed that the project is as dead as the proverbial door nail.

"It's fair to say that there's nothing in the product plan for an Infiniti flagship right now. It's just not a priority in today's climate."

"Our dealers would rather have something with more volume," he continued. “Twelve months ago they would have said yes; now it's way down on their wish list."

With sales of existing prestige cars in the same class – such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series – taking hits from the current global financial woes, the decision for Infiniti to stay out of the game (at least for now) won’t surprise many.
