GM Acknowledges Demand for Small-Engined Big Cars

In yet another sign of the apocalypse, General Motors in the US says that should its customers indicate a desire for a turbocharged 2.0 litre 4-cylinder version of the Cadillac CTS, it's not an idea the General would immediately throw out.  In fact, GM's Executive Vice President for Global Powertrain and Quality, Thomas G. Stephens, says they're willing.

Currently offering a pair of V6 options and the CTS-V's 6.2-litre V8, the CTS as it stands right now is among the growing list of cars that are losing their appeal to fuel-conscious buyers.  While a lot more owners these days are thinking more and more about the rising cost of fuel, many are still struggling to wean themselves off the bigger, more powerful and exciting engines.

With a smaller, turbocharged engine as an option, the CTS ought to be able to hold onto a lot of its buyers, and its own lifeline.

General, perhaps you could start with that nifty lookin' CTS Coupe concept?  I do believe the turbo-tuning boys will enjoy that one.
