Earlier in the year we reported on the beautiful 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante discovered in a garage by Dr. Harold Carr’s descendants after his passing.

As planned, that Bugatti has since gone on the block this weekend at a Bonhams auction in Paris, where a European collector parted with €3.4 million (AUD$6.5m) to make it his own.

The description set with the vehicle while at auction went:

"The new owner will have the pleasure of firing up [engine] 26S and hearing that turbine-like sound that so excited Earl Howe when he collected this car from Sorel in 1937.

"Once again [chassis] 57502, a true supercar with impeccable credentials, emerges to take its place on the world stage."

Now begins the process of restoring the Bugatti to its past glory, and we can only hope the lucky new owner will allow us all to see the end result.

Thanks for the tip, Adam!
