Amid some fanfare and plenty of booing from the peanut gallery Subaru Australia released the first official Australian image of the 2008 Impreza WRX. The most obvious and possibly only cosmetic change is the revised grille which is certainly an improvement on the waffle pattern grille seen on the new WRX so far.
The real fear amongst WRX fans is that Subaru have lost the plot. The new WRX will only be available as a hatchback in Australia and if recent initial road tests abroad are anything to go by, then the new WRX is a little more warm and fuzzy than the outgoing model and warm and fuzzy are not attributes previously associated with the Rex.
We will have to wait to here the Aussie verdict but we are not holding high hopes. It is difficult to understand why a manufacturer would spend more than a decade cultivating a legend to let it come to this?a somewhat bland hatch. The WRX should have been harder, tougher, meaner and sharper than ever before.
Subaru will release complete specifications of the new Impreza WRX as well as the three naturally aspirated Impreza versions by early September.
