Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited have just announced that they will unveil the all-new Lancer Evolution X, on October 11th at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. Until today, we were not expecting to see the Evo X until the Tokyo Motor show but all that appears to have changed and Aussie motoring fans are in for a real treat in Sydney.
Do we have the Nissan GT-R and its pending Tokyo Motor Show unveiling to thank for this ? were Mitsubishi concerned that the Evo X's thunder would be stolen by the new Godzilla?
Eagerly anticipated by performance vehicle enthusiasts around the world, the production model of the all new Lancer Evolution will make both its Australian debut and its global motor show debut at the Sydney International Motor Show.
With an impeccable lineage that has included nine race, rally and award winning models - several of which have been sold in the Australian market - the 2008 Lancer Evolution is ready to take its place in Mitsubishi?s local line-up beside the just-released Lancer sedan range.
Robert McEniry, CEO and President of MMAL, announced the inclusion of the all-new Evo at the Sydney show. ?Mitsubishi?s Australian range is constantly improving, but the 2008 Lancer Evolution is certainly the pinnacle of our line-up.?
?Last month, we launched the all new Lancer sedan line-up, with benchmark levels of safety ? including stability control standard across the range - and it gives me great pleasure to announce the preview of the first of the performance variants to the Lancer line-up.? Mr McEniry said.
Powered by an all-new 2.0-litre turbocharged and intercooled engine, the 2008 Lancer Evolution promises to continue the hard-core bang for your buck performance that has thrilled owners of previous Evo generations.
Mitsubishi claim that the all-new Evolution showcases cutting edge vehicle-control engineering and technology such as Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system which offers extraordinary levels of driver control, and the new optional automated manual Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), a dual clutch manual similar to Audi?s DSG.
?The important thing to remember about the 2008 Lancer Evolution is that it is a complete performance package. Not only does the vehicle have a powerful new engine, but the user technology inherent in the vehicle ensures incredible flexibility and grip and enhanced handling and dynamics,? said Mr McEniry.
Pricing and specifications for the 2008 Lancer Evolution range have yet to be finalised, but Mitsubishi has indicated that it will follow their established mantra of offering attractive, quality-engineered vehicles at extremely sharp price points.
We are just grateful that the new Evo X is a handsome beast unlike recent offerings from that other turbo performance brand - Subaru.
The Australian International Motor Show opens to the public at 5.00pm on Thursday, October 11th at the Darling Harbour Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sydney and Carupdate will be there to keep you updated.
