Is the Mazda CX-9 any good? According to Motor Trend magazine it is and as a result they have awarded it their 2008 Sport/Utility of the Year award in North America. The Mazda CX-9 beat one of the toughest fields in some years to take the gong with a unanimous judges vote.
Motor Trend?s editorial staff conducted exhaustive off-road, street and track testing, and carefully considered driving performance, safety and features. The Sport/Utility of the Year award is not a comparison test, instead each contender is evaluated against three criteria:
? superiority (engineering, design, utilization of resources).
? significance (its impact on the market).
? value (what buyers get for their money versus the competition).
The Mazda CX-9 has recently received the highest possible ratings in frontal and side impact crashes by the North American governments' National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In addition to receiving a five-star frontal and side impact crash-test rating, the CX-9 received four-star rollover resistance ratings. No other SUV on the market today has received ratings that are superior to the CX-9.
In Australia, the award winning CX-9 will be fitted with a 3.7-litre version of the 3.5-litre found in the North American models and we can expect to have a choice of two models, Classic and Luxury with prices tipped to begin at around $50k.
