Honda have released a special race only version of their cult Civic type R. It may look unfamiliar but keep in mind that Honda have based it on the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) four door sedan Civic type R - not the hatchback ?European? version (based on the smaller Honda Fit chassis) that we know.
The Civic Type R One Make Race (OMR) version is available 'made to order' and is very smartly priced at ?1,690,500 or AUD17,000. Honda have intentionally kept the price low in order to encourage younger amateur racers to enter their One Make Race series the ?2008 Honda Exciting Cup One Make Race Civic Series?.
Think of it as being the early stages of the PS2 driving game Gran Turismo. The stripped down Civics are built for race purposes only, and Honda have done their bit by fitting the Civic Type R OMR with fire extinguishers, race seats and harnesses and deleting any unnecessary items such as the carpet, roof lining, centre console, seats, security system, air-conditioning and keyless entry.
Unable to be registered on the road the Civic Type R OMR is a racetrack only proposition.
