In what amounts to great news for performance hatch enthusiasts, Ford have confirmed that their Focus RS hatch will go into production and to celebrate, they?ve released the now standard teaser image, but this time there is nothing bad to hide ? it looks hot.
The Focus RS hatch will be the most recent iteration of a group whose DNA goes back to the days of the RS and RS Cosworth Escorts. Rally inspired, road-going rockets is the best way to describe them and expect Ford?s latest version to be a hard hitter.
With power from the Volvo sourced 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine expected to be at least 209kW/280hp, this will be a Focus that takes the fight to the WRX and Lancer EvoX.
Upgrades are expected to include the usual suspension and ride-height modifications to further improve ride, handling and grip. As the teaser image suggests, the RS Focus will see some extensive bodywork revisions including pumped guards, bonnet air-vents as well as the usual revised front and rear bars and spoiler/wing.
We should see the production version of the RS Focus unveiled during 2008 with it most likely to go on sale in late 2008 or early 2009. Hopefully Ford doesn?t forget the colonies and remembers to send a few to Australia.
