After the Detroit Auto Show unveiling of the Audi R8 V12 TDI, it is going to be difficult to trump Audi?s own effort at upping the ante of their R8 supercar, but that won?t stop the European tuning houses from giving it their best shot. Edo Competition have released details of their latest version of Audi?s R8, and although in this writers opinion it falls short of the R8 V12 TDI?s styling, the Edo Competition is a good example of tasteful modifications that add to the already well rounded R8?s styling and performance.
Edo Competition have taken the standard tuning route with the styling and added a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with 20-inch alloys being available as an option (as pictured). Carbon fibre is subtle feature of the exterior upgrade, with a lip spoiler and rear diffuser being made of the lightweight but strong composite material.
Mechanically, Edo Competition have breathed gently on the R8?s 4.2-litre V8, increasing output from the standard /420hp to 442hp with the addition of tri-metal sport catalysts. The few extra horses are enough to see the Edo R8 run from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds on the way to a top speed of around 310km/h.
All of which makes the Edo tweaked R8 one for the more conservative poseur, wanting that little bit more from their R8 experience.
