Aston Martin have announced that they will be defending their 2007 GT1 title at Le Mans with two DBR9?s kitted out in the blue and orange Gulf Oil livery, that for me at least brings images of the Ford GT40 to mind. The two AM DBR9?s are looking to recreate Gulf?s first victory at Le Mans 40 years ago.
?This is arguably the most important year ever for Gulf in motorsport. The famous Gulf racing colours first tasted victory at Le Mans in 1968, so 2008 already had great significance for us, but for Gulf to have joined up with Aston Martin Racing for this year is fantastic ? the coming together of two great automotive names, for what I hope will be a long and fruitful partnership,? said Alain Dujean, Gulf Oil vice president international.
Chairman of Aston Martin, David Richards of Prodrive fame, noted that endurance racing is a part of Aston?s history as well as that of Gulf Oil, so the partnership was destined to eventuate. No complaints here...the Gulf Oil livery would be enough to get the heart of any motor racing fan pumping a little more urgently, especially when its spread across an Aston wearing the infamous 007 number.
