Viperformance/Metrakit Australia is set to launch Spain's new 2009 Metrakit XL80R Road Racer at Phillip Island's MotoGP on 3, 4 and 5 October.

The track-bred mini-rocket will be displayed at the Metrakit stand in the support paddock. Trackside fans will get a good look at the Metrakit XL80R's style and performance when it laps the circuit with Australia's 2007 Metrakit Champion and Red Bull Rookie Dylan Mavin in the saddle as part of the junior display.

With a capacity of just 76.62cc and producing its maximum 25hp at 13,500rpm, the Metrakit XL80R is purpose-designed for young riders 13?16 years old, who want to get into track racing and learn the ropes (and develop the skills) before progressing to bigger, nastier classes.

It's a great concept, supported by a Metrakit mini-GP race series. (The XL80R is also a ripper-looking little machine.) All the mini-GP models, and their components, are designed to match Grand Prix bikes and to handle like the bigger 125cc machines used in World Championship races

Viperperformance has announced that there will be upgrade kits available for the superseded model to ensure that all models are competitively matched. The new 2009 Metrakit XL80R puts the Spanish manufacturer at the head of junior road racing (perhaps that's why Spanish riders are all over MotoGP).

Viperformance's Jennifer Diles said, "The new Metrakit 80 is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and colourful 2009-2010 season series for Metrakit in Australia."
